Mike’s business background began at a very early age, Mike worked in his parents’ retail and wholesale businesses. He opened his first business, a T-shirt design shop, at the age of 15 and his second business at 18 years old, Genesis Advertising. These experiences gave him an excellent start into the fundamental elements of business development. Mike went on to establish many other successful ventures, such as, Westec Computer Support, the first tech company in the US to integrate Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) functionality for independent retailers. Mike served as the Computer Automation Director for the Western Retailer’s & Manufacturer’s Association from 1994 to 1996.
In 1992, he purchased The Boot Jack Western Wear store in downtown McAllen, TX from his parents and opened an additional location in 1995 in McAllen, TX, growing the operation into a 100+ employee company with revenues reaching $10M. The family-owned Boot Jack stores were nationally recognized as one of the top three Western Image Stores by the Western-English Retailer’s Association in the US during his time with the Boot Jack. In 2001, Mike purchased The Christian Book Shop (now called Viva Life Christian Gift Shop). Within the first 18 months at Viva Life, the sales volume increased to quadruple it’s former sales volume.
Over the last 15+ years, Mike has established a strong presence in the real estate investment market, as a partner in SPI Coastal Properties on South Padre Island and currently, owner/broker of Prime Ventures Commercial Real Estate (www.primeventuresTX.com), while operating as managing partner for his family’s asset management company, Masso Family LP Properties in South Texas and the Texas Hill Country.
Mike has owned and operated Prime Ventures and Masso Family LP Properties, encompassing over 250,000sf of shopping centers, plazas, stand-alone and mixed-use commercial properties throughout South Texas and the Texas Hill Country. In 2015, he acquired a redevelopment project, The Shops of Faithville Park (formerly known as Faithville Village). The Faithville Park vision in progress is to enhance the Hill Country village setting with upgrades to the structures, aesthetics, landscaping, along with additional development for more restaurants, boutiques, executive offices, and a residential village. The original seven-acre development is now in process of expanding to 16+ acres, with a current mix of restaurants, ladies’ boutiques, furniture and decor, full service spa, hair salon, wellness, veterinarian, fitness training center, professional services, executive business center, auto service, and more on the way.
